Crystal-clear wines from the Kremstal
"Markus Lang is currently arguably the most exciting producer in the Danube Valley. His wines are already among the most spectacular and interesting white wines in Austria."

Developing Something New
Winemaking was not exactly in my blood. For 25 years, I worked as an aircraft builder and engineer in various industries. Wine was a pleasure to be enjoyed; viticulture was something I only knew from a distance. About 15 years ago, more by chance, I came across a neglected vineyard in Stein an der Donau. To be honest, I wondered what I was supposed to do there. Something inside me said: "just work." And so it has remained until now, becoming my greatest passion.
From this, our own interpretation of winemaking evolved: radical purism combined with innovative technology, with the goal of creating precise, crystal-clear wines with length and structure. An independent wine style that is both animating and opening.
The Terroir:
Our Three Sites
Above Stein an der Donau
Riede Steiner Schreck – The vines stand on small terraces of well-weathered granite and gneiss soil at the summit of the Schreck vineyard, looking down into the valley from 120 meters above the Danube. This is where our Grüner Veltliners "Kalt und Klar" and "Dritter Akt" grow, as well as the Riesling "This is not a Love Song"—the latter two from very old vines.
Riede Steiner Braunsdorfer – A sheltered side valley of the Danube with two to five meters of loess over rock, situated at 250 meters above sea level. This is the birthplace of our Grüner Veltliner "Fuchs und Dachs" (Fox & Badger). Several badger families have extensive burrow systems here. When it is freezing cold in winter, it sometimes happens that the fox wanders into the badger's den so they can warm each other. This brotherhood became the namesake for this wine.
Riede Lemberg – A small clearing in the forest, our highest and coolest site in the Kremstal. This is where the Riesling "Hartstein" is born. The soil is almost exclusively granite that has weathered into sand, featuring great natural plant diversity.
In addition to a few 10-year-old young plots, the vines are between 30 and over 100 years old. The roots of some vines reach very deep, naturally yielding small harvest quantities but convincing quality.
